Effect of water extract of Kami Dangkwi San on immune cells during pregnancy of mice

Abstract

|
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of Kami Dangkwi San water extract(KDSE) on the immune cells during pregnancy of mice. DNA fragmentation of T-lymphcytes was increased during pregnancy, but was decreased by the administration of KDSE. T_H and T_C cells were decreased in the latter stages of pregnancy, but were increased by the administration of KDSE. The proliferation of thymocytes were decreased by the administration of KDSE in the first and the middle stages of pregnancy, but were increased in the latter stages of pregnancy. The proliferation of thymocytes were increased by the treatment of KDSE in vitro system. Nitric oxide production from peritoneal macrophages was increased in the latter stages of pregnancy, but was not effected by the administration of KDSE. The lucigenin chemiluminescence and phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages were increased in the latter stages of pregnancy, but were decreased by the administration of KDSE.
These results suggest that the T lymphocyte-mediated immune system is suppressed and the peritoneal macrophages are activated in the latter stages of pregnant mice, but the state of normal pregnant mice is partly reversed by the administration of KDSE.
